An opinion piece in the Digital Journal today compares conservative politics with autism. My reply to the author, changing a few words of his own text:
Arguably the greatest insult ever given to the autistic community is the neurotypical “hate autism” dogma. This flies in the face of the American Dream where someone with different neurology can rise to the top. It effectively denies the rights of a large section of the American public.
This is a pattern and it’s now mainstream. People think they can get away with this sort of insult. Somehow autistic people’s interest just don’t deserve acknowledgement according to clueless neurotypical values. It’s no wonder autistics have totally lost faith in society. They’re not being represented, at all.
Paul Wallis, you have just done the exact thing you decry in your article: insulted and dismissed an entire segment of the population without any understanding of their needs, their rights or their basic humanity. Newsflash: autistic people read the news and they have feelings. And you have NO idea what autism really is.
